Getting to the workshop
There are several ways to get to Harris.
Flying
In terms of quickest, FlyBe flies directly to Stornoway on Lewis from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. I'd recommend you book a flight early as there are huge savings to be made by booking early.
If you are coming by plane, please arrive in Stornoway no later than 4pm on the date the trip commences.
For flight schedules, please refer to the FlyBe web site
Ferry
The other options are to take the ferry crossing to Harris but please give yourself plenty of time to organise this. Ferries leave from Skye to Tarbert and also from Ullapool to Stornoway. Ideally you want to go to Tarbert as this is where we will be staying.
For ferry times, please see the Caledonian MacBrayne web site.

Trip Details
Harris is a stunningly beautiful island, situated in the far north of Scotland. It is part of the outer Hebrides.
As part of the trip, we will venture onto Lewis to photograph the Calanais stones for sunset.
This trip is set up to maximise our time during dawn and sunset. These are after all the magic hours and where most great photographic images are created.
Arrival & Introduction
12:00
We will meet at the airport in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, where we will go by mini bus to our accomodation in Harris (1 hour) where we will be staying at the lovely Harris Hotel in Tarbert for our entire stay.
7:00 - 8:00pm
Dinner
8:00 - 9:00pm
I will present a talk on my approaches to landscape photography.
May Daily Schedule
The days are long in May. This is great for evening light, but also means having to get up very early to capture the morning light too. There is some 'rest time' factored into this trip, so that you can keep your batteries re-charged throughout the week.
5:00 - 9:00am
Many of the scienic locations on Harris are in the south of the Island. We have many beaches and also some very rugged scenery to photograph, so we will be heading out each morning in search of one of the many fine locations on the island.
9:00 - 10:00am
Breakfast.
10:00am - 12:00pm
Rest time. Due to the long days, it is advisable to have some rest time to recover from the late evenings and early morning starts.
12:00 - 3:00pm
Critique session & digital workflow. We will select two shots from each member to discuss and I will show you how the image may be improved and the steps involved from RAW file to final print.
6:00pm - 7:00pm
Dinner
7:00pm - 10:00pm
On location for sunset. The evening light tends to go on and on, giving us plenty of time to capture some golden evening summer light.
November Daily Schedule
In November, days are short, but this has its advantages: no early morning starts, and no late evenings. Easier on the body clock. The sun never gets too high in the sky either, thus producing some really stunning light.

9:00 - 10:00am
Breakfast. Back to the hotel for some food and wamth before taking an hour out of our schedule to relax, have a shower, take a rest.

12:00 - 3:00pm
The light can be stunning on Harris at any time of year. Dramatic weather can really add to the locations and each afternoon we will revisit some of the locations we shot during the special morning light.
