Trip Details

Bruce likes to run his Safaris in a friendly, open, group setting. This trip is more a practical hands on 'Safari' than Bruce's normal workshops, due to the logistics involved, but you will get a lot of hands on experience from Bruce while at the same time, immerse yourself with plenty of time out in the field on your own.

Arrival & Introduction

Bruce will meet you in Leknes, Lofoten and drive us all to Reine for the first night where we will meet Lilian at her guest house Det gamle Hotellet. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Reine with immediate views of the surrounding area.

9:00 - 10:00pm

Because we are arriving so late - it is one hour from Leknes, we will have a light meal and spend the time getting acquainted.

Daily Schedule

The days are short in February & March, but this has plenty of benefits. Because the sun is low in the sky all day it means we have beautiful light lasting all day and it's possible to make great photos even at mid day. Sunrise is late at 8am allowing for more time in bed while sunset is early at 4:30pm, meaning we'll be back at our hotel in Reine for dinner and some well earned time off in the evenings.

7:00 - 9:00am
On location for sunrise. Most mornings we will spend in and around the town of Reine, once voted Norway's most scienic town. The surrounding area has plenty to keep us occupied.

9:00 - 10:00am

Breakfast

10:00am - 12:00pm

Heading back out to shoot for the remainder of the day. Often traveling further afield up to one of my favourite places Flakstad.

12:00pm - 1:00pm

Lunch on location

1:00 - 5:00pm
Late afternoon shooting where we will stay out until after sunset and twilight has finished.

7:00 - 8:00pm

Dinner.

8:00 - as long as you wish to stay up!

Your time off, but if you want to head out into the small beautiful town of Reine to make images in the snow, and perhaps spot the northern lights, then feel free.

Accommodation

We will be staying at Guesthouse Det gamle Hotellet, Reine, Lofoten. This is a very basic, but homely hotel of five rooms. Most of the rooms have single or twin beds and there is one room with a double bed. We will have single room occupancy but I'd like to stress that although the hotel is very nice, it's basic.

Getting to the workshop

SAS airlines and Wideroe fly to Leknes from Oslo. Currently, there are no flights listed for February 2013 at the time of writing, but I will be in touch with members who have booked to coincide flight bookings and arrange for pick up in Leknes.

Please note that you will have to pick up your luggage from the belt in Oslo, go through customs and then drop the baggage again at the desks in the departure hall, regardless if it is labeled all the way to the end-destination. You will need some time to go through security again and should build in this time when booking a ticket. (there's a flight with only 50min between arrival and departure and another one with 2 hours; Please choose the one with two hours inbetween). On the way back, the luggage gets sent through to the destination, so you don't need to worry about that then.
