"It was a really good day.
The pictures we took at the start of the night of the castle are spectacular.

Calum Watt is new to photography. Having spent a day with him reviewing his images it was clear to me that he wasn't sure what it was that he liked to photograph. The images he'd taken so far were not of anything in particular. So he was needing a good location with something to inspire him.

I wasn't sure if he had the photography bug until we got to Tantallon castle. The evening light was spectacular with god rays to the right of the castle and lots of surf.

Calum was transfixed. That was the moment I knew for sure that he has the spark that is required to want to make images - to be a true photographer.

"Many thanks for the one to one tutorial this week after which for the first time I understood how to use photoshop layers and masks in a practical and elegant way. In addition, your combination of creative photographic talent with a fluent understanding of the post picture-taking digital process, together with a gentle observant manner, made for a best learning session I have enjoyed for many years.

With best wishes

Peter"

Peter is an amazing photographer but I really had no idea until he'd stepped through the front door and put some of his slides up on my light table.

It was an immensely enjoyable session with him. His images were great and in many ways I felt there was nothing I could teach him, but he has the eye of a master printer at heart and this was something that was lacking in his skill set. So we spent a good few hours discussing some of his images and working on fine tuning them to convey his own artistic vision.
